It almost take a photo finish to decide after a four hours of fascinating racing on second leg of Alpe Adria Sailing Tour. We saw everything today. First, the regatta started in Trieste harbour with very light wind, only to be cancelled by Polizia Navale since there was a big RO-RO ship coming into the harbour. Probably a big disappointment for Stefano Rizzi who took an early lead.
After that the race was restarted with southern wind ( 8 to 14 KN ) and the course has been shortened to 21 NM. First on the buoy was the Friuli-Venezia-Giulia Team with Gian Lucca Colla, followed by Aquilea with Marco Augelli, and the Alcatel, City of Split, Barcolana, and BMW Team all followed. Peter Holmberg was first to hoist genoa under the gennaker and he soon gained some extra speed. Two Italian crews went to far towards Capodistria, and BMW Team jibed away followed by City of Split. At the finish line there was again very small margin between boats and that is a guarantee that we’ll see exciting sailing until the very end.

THERE IS NO CHANGE ON TOP IN OVERALL CLASIFICATION. IT’S BMW IN FRONT OF SPLIT AND AQUILEA !!!

PETER HOLMBERG : It is great to see such a close finish after four hours of racing. We started a litle bit slowly and after a buoy we jibed first and that proved to be a good decision. We hoisted a genoa under gennaker and we thought that will be our secret for a while. But soon Split did the same and others also. At the end God was on our side and we finished first.

IVAN KURET : It’s fantastic to be so close to Peter again. Our tactics was to observe what’s he doing and be close, because we have a big advantage in front of the rest, so I don’t want to lose Peter from my sight.

MARCO AUGELLI : Great racing today. We took the lead at one moment, but I guess we went to far towards Capodistria and after we jibed BMW and Split were in front. But anyway, great day on the sea and the boats did excellent in these conditions.
